There are a few simple steps that will help your cut-flowers to look their best as long as possible

  • use a clean vessel for your flowers
  • recut the stems approximately half an inch when you arrive home, as well as every second day afterward; use a clean tool for recutting
  • strip stems of any leaves that will be submerged in water
  • insert freshly-cut stems into water as soon as possible
  • change water every day
  • keep flowers out of direct sunlight and heat
  • keep your fresh flowers away from your fruit bowl; a long list of fruits and vegetables contain and emit ethylene gas, which accelerates wilting flowers
  • as your flowers begin to age, remove any wilting stems from the vase
